We live in a culture that prioritizes the mind over the body and productivity over presence. People are more connected than ever — and lonelier than ever.
We've outsourced our stillness to screens, our joy to consumption, and our belonging to algorithms.
Sol Emergence exists as a counterweight to all of that.
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization devoted to cultivating conscious, connected community — through music, movement, deep listening, and intentional gathering.
We exist to help people reconnect with embodied awareness, collective care, and the experience of being fully human together.
Our spaces welcome everyone — across age, race, sexual orientation, background, body, gender, and experience level. We've seen 70-year-olds and 7-year-olds move together on the same floor. We've watched strangers from completely different worlds find each other in the circle. That breadth is truly the point.
What makes our spaces different is not just intention — it's training. Our co-founder Maya Lemberg is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner with 20 years of experience in the healing arts. Her clinical background means that every Sol Emergence gathering is held with a trauma-informed lens — creating containers that are not only joyful and liberating, but genuinely held.
Scott Houston is an accredited 5Rhythms teacher, and his training in this somatic movement practice shapes both how he reads a room and how he curates sound — guiding the community through a full wave of emotion and energy, from activation to stillness, with intentionality and care. Together, their combined backgrounds create something rare: a dancefloor that is both therapeutically grounded and alive.
Our spaces are substance-free, consent-centered, and rooted in integrity. What happens inside them is real — the sweat, the stillness, the unexpected moment of connection with a stranger who becomes something more.
This is not entertainment. This is practice.
Atlanta has had a thriving conscious dance community for well over a decade. Since 2014, Scott Houston had been facilitating 5Rhythms and DJing ecstatic dances on a weekly basis — until the Covid pandemic brought everything to a stop in 2020.
As venues shut their doors, community dances ceased. Three months in, Scott and his partner Maya Lemberg decided to use Candler Park as the setting for a one-time, safe outdoor dance in honor of the Summer Solstice. The community showed up hungry — hungry to move, to be together, to feel something real again. It was clear something needed to exist beyond that single afternoon.
Sol Dance was born that summer.
Since 2020, Sol Dance has consistently gathered a large, diverse community of dancers — ranging in age, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and background. What started as a single Solstice gathering has grown into one of the most diverse and welcoming conscious dance communities in the country.
In 2025, Sol Dance became the flagship program of Sol Emergence Inc., a Georgia-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization — formalizing the mission that had been alive in the community from the very beginning.
